On 12 February 2021, Standards Australia issued the toy safety standard AS/NZS ISO 8124.3:2021 "Safety of toys - Part 3: migration of specific elements".

The standard was developed by the Joint Technical Committee CS-018- Children's Toys Safety Group.

  It replaces AS/NZS 8124.3:2012 and AS/NZS ISO 8124.3:2012 AMD 1:2016.

This standard is equivalent to ISO 8124-3:20 Safety of toys - Part 3: Migration of specific elements.

Compared with the previous version AS/NZS 8124.3:2012 and AS/NZS ISO 8124.3:2012 AMD 1:2016, the main changes are AS follows:

  (1) Two new detailed methods of wax removal (cable extraction method and solvent extraction method) were added and replaced the original method.

  (2) The elemental analysis method is pointed out. Elements can be analyzed by ICP-OES, ICP-MS, AAS, or other appropriate methods. An ICP-OES method is provided for reference.

  (3) The definition of "paper" and "cardboard" has been changed. According to the new standard, the definition of "cardboard" will apply to paper or board with a mass of more than 400 g/m2 per unit area.
