ISO 8124

  The definition of ISO 8124 is: International Toy Safety Standard. ISO8124 is composed of three parts. ISO8124-1 is the requirement of "mechanical physical properties" in this standard. This standard was officially released on April 1, 2000. The other two parts are: ISO 8124-2 "flammability" and ISO 8124-3 "transfer of certain elements".

  Part 1: Mechanical and physical performance safety standards

   The latest version of this part of ISO 8124 is ISO 8124-1:2009, which was updated in 2009. The requirements in this section apply to all toys, that is, any product or material that is designed or clearly indicated or used for children under 14 years of age.

This Part specifies acceptable criteria (basis) for the structural characteristics of toys, such as sharpness, size, shape, clearance (such as: sound, small parts, sharp points and sharp edges, hinge clearance), and some toys Acceptable judgment criteria for similar special properties (for example: the maximum kinetic energy of projectiles with inelastic ends, the minimum included angle of certain ride-on toys).

   This part specifies the toy requirements and test methods for children of all age groups from birth to 14 years old.

   This part also requires that certain toys or their packaging be marked with appropriate warnings and instructions for use. Due to the different languages of each country, the text of these warnings and instructions is not specified, but the general requirements are given in Appendix C.

   This section does not indicate that it covers or covers the potential harm of various special toys or toy types that have been considered.

   Example 1: A typical example of sharp injury is the sexual tip of a needle. The needle injury has been recognized by the purchaser of the toy sewing kit, and the functional acute injury is notified to the user through normal education methods, and a warning sign is marked on the product package.

Example 2: Toy syringes also have use-related and recognized injuries (such as: instability during use, especially for beginners) potential injuries with structural characteristics (sharp edges, clamping injuries, etc.), refer to ISO8124 The requirements of this part of the standard should be reduced to a minimum.

  Part 2: Flammability

   The latest version of this part of ISO 8124 is ISO 8124-2:2007, which was updated in 2007. This part specifies the types of combustible materials that are prohibited to be used in toys and the flame-retardant requirements for specific toys when they come into contact with small fire sources. Regulation 5 of this section specifies the test method.

  Part 3: Migration of specific elements

   The latest version of this part of ISO 8124 is ISO 8124-3:2010, which was updated on May 27, 2010. This part mainly controls the heavy metal content of accessible materials in toy products. This update did not change the specific limit requirements of the standard, but made the following adjustments in some non-technical aspects:

  1) The new standard specifies the scope of toy materials that need to be tested in detail, and expands the scope of surface coating testing on the basis of the first edition

   2) The new standard adds the definition of "paper and cardboard";

  3) The new standard changes the test reagents used for degreasing and dewaxing, and the modified reagents are consistent with the latest version of EN71-3;

  4) The new standard adds that the uncertainty should be considered when determining whether the quantitative analysis meets the requirements or not;

  5) The new standard modifies the maximum respirable amount of antimony from 1.4 micrograms/day to 0.2 micrograms/day.
